About Merry Monkey - Shirts, mugs, buttons, and more
When I first started creating T-Shirt designs, I found that just about
everything I came up with could be classified as either Nice,
Naughty, or Nasty. Looking back on all the the people I've ever known, only one really
fit that same description. No, she wasn't a high school vamp, or college
tease; she was a 6 year old spider monkey.
Gloria was a spider
monkey that my family monkey-sat her for one summer while a middle-school friend of
mine went on vacation to Europe. Normally, she was as
nice as could be - you could hold her like a baby, and she loved to be stroked.
Just a wonderful, sweet baby. Other times she could be naughty.
Her cage
(6 foot by 6 foot by 4 foot) was near the light switch, and it wasn't long
before she learned how to turn off the lights in the rec-room whenever someone
sat on the couch to read. She loved the commotion she could make.
And lastly, Gloria could be just plain nasty. If she didn't get her way,
sometimes she'd just make some fresh monkey-poo and lob it at you through the front
of her cage. Guess who's job it was to clean that up? Yeah, me.
In general though, Gloria was a Merry Monkey, so when it came time to name a
store for the different designs I came up with, it seemed like an ideal name. I
considered Gloria.com, but it wasn't as catchy, and whoever owns it wasn't
willing to sell it for anything even approaching a reasonable price. So
hence, Merry Monkey designs came into existence.
